Southern Beaus in the #SuperBowl

Somehow I always get assigned the task of stalking some sports team’s roster for good looking southern beaus (which I totally do NOT hate by the way). So, with the Super Bowl coming up, obvi this had to happen again. We all know Modern Magnolias love any excuse to be social, so I know y’all will be at Super Bowl parties on Sunday. If anything, this post will help you drop some names and impress and beaus you’re watching the game with. FYI: the teams playing in Super Bowl XLVIII are the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos.

But before I begin, let me say this: I do not actively keep up with professional football. Don’t get me wrong, I understand football and enjoy watching it (college football for the most part), so this post is not based on a players statistics and how many years they’ve been in the NFL, and is in absolutely no way an analysis of the teams. It’s based on important questions, like: Are these beaus Southern? Do I think they’re cute? Did they attend college in the South? Bonus points if I think they have a cool name.

Let’s start with the Seahawks:
1. Doug Baldwin-#89

Baldwin got drafted to the Seahawks as a free agent in 2011, and from what I learned via Wikipedia he’s done pretty well for the Seahawks, so he’ll play on Sunday for sure (via my expert analysis). Also, he apparently has his own YouTube series called “Fresh Files.”

Age: 25
Hometown: Gulf Breeze, Florida
Position: Wide receiver
College: Stanford University (not in the South, but we’ll forgive him because he’s pretty)
Twitter: @DougBaldwinJr

2. J.R. Sweezy-#64

Okay literally half the reason he’s on this list is his name. Like he just sounds like a professional athlete. The internet tells me that he’s played 28 games for the Seahawks and started 18, so here’s to hoping we see him on Sunday night!

Age: 24
Hometown: Mooresville, North Carolina
Position: Offensive Guard
College: NC State

3. Clint Gresham-#49
-

Age: 27
Hometown: Corpus Chisti, Texas
Position: Long snapper
College: Texas Christian University, Oklahoma State University
Twitter: @Gresh49

Now for the Broncos:
1. Britton Colquitt-#4

This is him being adorable with his family (I’m assuming), wearing cowboy boots.. SWOON.

He’s married (bummer), but it’s okay to look, right?!

Age: 28
Hometown: Knoxville, Tennessee
Position: Punter
College: University of Tennessee

 2. Wes Welker-#83
-

Soooo he’s married too, but whatever. It’s clear he thinks he’s a model and I don’t hate it. And Wikipedia says he’s like really good so he will definitely be catching some passes on Sunday night.

Age: 32
Hometown: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Position: Wide Receiver/Return Specialist
College: Texas Tech University
Twitter: @WesWelker

And last, but certainly not least…

3. Peyton Manning-#18

Yeah, I know he’s wearing a Colts uniform, but LOVING THE BLACK AND WHITE Y’ALL.

He may be getting close to 40 but obviously I could not leave this beau off the list. If you don’t know who Peyton Manning is, you’re probably living under a rock. He played for the Colts for forevs and started playing for the Broncos in 2012. Manning already has a Super Bowl championship under his belt but is seeking his first as a Bronco. Confession: I will probably be a bandwagon fan for the Broncos on Sunday night for the sole reason that I know who Peyton Manning is. And let’s be honest y’all, you would want your husband to look like him when he’s close to 40.

Age: 37
Hometown: New Orleans, Louisiana
Position: Quarterback
College: University of Tennessee

So obviously there are more Southern beaus that play for the Seahawks and the Broncos but there was no way to include them all. Comment below or tweet us any that we left off. Seriously, I’m going to be watching the game and I wouldn’t mind knowing which man candy to be on the lookout for while I’m waiting on the Bruno Mars concert and watching the commercials.

Bonus facts that you can throw out at any point during whatever Super Bowl party you’re attending, in case you’re like me and literally don’t anything about either team:
  • This will be the Broncos’ seventh Super Bowl appearance. If they lose, it’ll be their fifth loss.
  • The Seahawks have the NFL’s top-ranked defense in both scoring and yards and the Broncos have the top-ranked offense in both scoring and yards.
  • Peyton Manning’s younger brother already has two Super Bowl rings, so like there has to be some pressure to catch up to baby bro. Peyton’s also trying to be first quarterback to win the Super Bowl as starter for two different teams.
  • Forbes.com tells me that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are also playing at half time.. WHO KNEW?!
Happy Super Bowl partying y’all!

#SuperBowl Party- Pizza

Another fan favorite tailgate meal is pizza. While I’m sure many pizza places will have a deal on pizza for the game, why do that when you can impress your guests and make a homemade pizza that will knock their socks off?! This may also be just as inexpensive AND guaranteed better quality.

Ingredients1 pre-made ball of pizza dough (can be found in most grocery stores)
2 chicken breasts
Your favorite BBQ sauce
1/4 of a medium-sized red onion, thinly sliced
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 bunch of fresh cilantro

Directions
Coat chicken breasts in your favorite BBQ sauce and bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Once cooked fully and cooled, cut into bite sized pieces. Increase oven to 450 degrees.

Roll out pizza dough into a thin square. Spread a thin layer of the BBQ sauce onto the dough. Layer the chicken and thinly sliced red onion onto the pizza. Top with mozzarella. Bake at 450 degrees for 17-20 minutes until the crust is slightly browned and the cheese is melted.

Sprinkle chopped cilantro on top of pizza. Many people (including myself) do not like the taste of cilantro so I prefer to use a skimpy amount vs. overdoing it.

Depending on the amount of people at your party, cut into slices or bite sized pieces.

Enjoy y’all!

#SuperBowl Party- Fried Pickles y'all. Y U M.

I know my go-to appetizer when I’m out watching football at a bar is fried pickles. (Shout out to the Esso Club in Clemson, S.C., for starting this addiction.) So, that’s why the first post in this Super Bowl party recipe series is nothing else but fried pickles.

I used my Fry Daddy Jr. for this. If you don’t have a deep fryer, (a) double check to make sure you really are Southern and then (b) ask your grandmother or mom if they have any extras to spare. That’s where I found mine! It’s the perfect size to fry just about anything and yet store away nicely. If not, add about 2 inches of oil into a medium-sized frying pan or pot.

Ingredients
1 jar of hamburger dill pickle chips
Buttermilk
2 cups flour
1 1/2 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoons garlic powder
Vegetable oil for frying

Directions
Drain pickle juice from jar and pour enough buttermilk into the jar enough to coat all. Marinate pickles in fridge for at least an hour.

On a plate, mix paprika, flour and garlic powder. Pour oil to the line in your fryer and heat until it starts rippling.

Drain buttermilk from jar and coat the pickles with the flour mix. Shake off excess coating. Drop about 10 pickles into the fryer at a time and let fry for about 5 minutes until crispy and brown. Remove from fryer and place on layered paper towels to remove grease. Sprinkle with salt. Repeat until all are fried.

Serve these babies with homemaderanch dressing. You heard me right! After you’ve tasted homemade ranch, you won’t go back. Trust me.

Enjoy y’all!

Bruno at the Bowl

Clearly, no one is ever going to be able to top last year's Super Bowl halftime show. I mean, let's be real...
http://redlipsandacademics.com

But Bruno Mars is definitely entertaining enough to give it a go. We're actually really excited about him- especially after his performance at the Billboard's.

#GRAMMYs recap

If you know me or have followed me for any extended amount of time, you know I love a good awards show. The #GRAMMYs are, arguably, my favorite. The outfits are kind of ridiculous. They performance are out of this world. And they give out, like, four awards.

As usual, this year's ceremony was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Let's be real, kicking off anything with Beyonce and Jay Z is going to be ahhhhmazing.
http://www.buzzfeed.com/mattbellassai/

But... let's not get ahead of ourselves. We have the Red Carpet to discuss. The #GRAMMYs Red Carpet is always the one where music's biggest stars (minus One Direction, Rihanna, Kanye and Justin Timberlake oddly...) get to have a little fun.

Who We Loved:
1. Katy Perry
http://nymag.com/thecut/
So this literally just came from the couture runway show in Paris. Like, as in, last week... And who else could pull this off? Exactly. I will say, I liked it on the runway better. But, duh. (I think it has something to do with the lining.)
http://nymag.com/thecut/
2. Ciara
http://nymag.com/thecut/
Talk about glowing. This Modern Magnolia showed the world how to do pregnancy chic the right way. In custom Pucci, she absolutely showed every mom-to-be on the #GoldenGlobes Red Carpet how it's done.

3. Jared Leto
http://www.justjared.com
Beautiful Louisiana beau, Jared Leto, has been a flawless human being at every awards show this year. And then he showed a different type of flawless- the one reminding you that he is, in fact, in a rock band. Like seriously, I want his ombre.

Who Almost Got It Right
1. Kacey Musgraves
http://www.justjared.com/
So close, Kacey, so so so close. I like this dress, I think. I like this color, too. But it's too short and there's something off about the fit... But HUGE congrats on her win last night!!

2. Anna Kendrick
http://nymag.com/thecut
Again, so close Anna. Her hair looks fabulous but the top of the dress is just a little off. I'm not sure... Oh well.

Favorite LOL Moment

The hats at this event were crazy. None more noteworthy than Pharrell's first hat.
http://www.buzzfeed.com/
I mean, look at that thing. There were literally millions of tweets about it (at one point "Pharrell's hat" was a trending topic in the United States) but none were more PERFECT than this one:
It came pretty quickly and was simple and on point. As a #socialmedia nerd, I was giddy. And the rest of the world's #socialmedia nerds were too-

And of course, Pharrell being the perfect human that he is, responded in the most amazing way possible:
The Actual Ceremony
1. Beyonce and Jay Z opened the show and slayed. Like we all knew they would. Also, my new favorite word is "Surfboardt."
http://www.buzzfeed.com/mattbellassai
http://www.buzzfeed.com/mattbellassai

2. Lorde is the most perfect little goth ever.
http://www.buzzfeed.com
She took home a couple gramophones and her reaction to her first win was the absolutely most perfect reaction of any white girl ever...
http://www.buzzfeed.com/
Like, same girl. Same.

3. Kendrick Lamar & Imagine Dragons
This was my favorite performance of the night. I have been complaining about Kendrick getting robbed by Macklemore for the last week and a half and I was so happy that he showed the entire #GRAMMYs voting committee what they didn't reward. It was such a great performanceeee.
http://perezhilton.com/
And then there was this...

I have no words other than UGH.

4. Get Lucky
The dance party that happened during the Daft Punk + Pharrell + Stevie Wonder performance was unreal. Can you even imagine what it would feel like to be performing your song and look out to see Steven Tyler, Yoko Ono, Jay Z, etc. etc. etc. having an absolute dance party? Ahhhhhmazing.
http://perezhilton.com/
www.perezhilton.com
And... they won a couple of awards and the speeches were hilarious.
www.buzzfeed.com
5. The Highwaymen
http://www.rollingstone.com/
So for most people attending last night and talking about it today, this performance didn't make their top moments. These people suck. I genuinely shed a tear during "Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys." For anyone that loves country music, this was absolute magic. I got kind of excited on Twitter-
But seriously, I can't believe people are so nonchalant about this performance. Especially with the lack of country music representation... because, clearly, this doesn't count.
http://www.buzzfeed.com/
(But in all seriousness, I can't stop watching this GIF. It is so weirdly mesmerizing...)

6. 2/4 Beatles > 3/3 Jonas Brothers
This moment needs no description. If you didn't love it, you don't deserve to be allowed to listen to music.
www.perezhilton.com
www.buzzfeed.com
And finally, I will leave you with this because LOLZ.

So there you have it. The Super Bowl of the music world was amazing and I'm already counting down the days until next year's ceremony when Beyonce's surprise album sweeps all the awards.

#GRAMMYs Preview!!

It's almost here, it's almost here!! The Super Bowl of the music world, the Grammy Awards, are this Sunday night and to say we're excited is a complete understatement.
http://detectivesexymcbadass.tumblr.com/post/17534696301/sophia-grace-rosie-the-54th-annual-grammy
This awards show, like most, is less about handing out awards and more about the industry showing off... which we are F I N E with. But seriously, in the span of a few hours, there will be 20 (possibly 21) performances and they'll probably hand out seven awards.

What we're excited to see:
1. Beyonce and Jay Z
http://braindeaddrama.tumblr.com/post/73966211227/this-face-means-more-to-me-than-any-human-ever
Like, freaking duhhh. It will be Queen B's first performance since she surprised the entire world with a really, really, really great album and these two together? It's going to be amazinggg. And it will be a nice preview/reminder for allllllll of the Grammys she's going to rack up at next year's show.
http://www.eonline.com/
Bonus: remember last year when that random dude thanked Jay Z and this magical moment happened?
http://www.eonline.com/
2. Lorde
http://wifflegif.com/tags/162080-tennis-courts-gifs
This 17-year-old genius took the world by storm this year. Royals is just one of those songs that will never get old. She's nominated for a few awards and is performing too... and this is the first time she's even been invited to the Grammys. Talk about a boss. Also, she has fun dance moves when she performs so that will be fun to watch!
http://www.vulture.com/
3. Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Blake Shelton
http://nbcthevoice.tumblr.com/post/62858830967/aggressively-smashes-button
We have no idea what they're singing or why but we know that you don't get to see this kind of performance every day. It will some good ole' fashioned pickin' and singin' and, honestly, the world could use a lit more of that. Also... the rehearsals had to have been hilarious. Someone send us the bloopers. Like, for real.

What we're not so excited to see:
1. Highway Robbery
http://giphy.com/search/thrift-shop/
We love Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. For real. It's really hard not to. They make really catchy songs that are fun to dance around to. However... we have a feeling they are going to rack up the awards and while some of them are absolutely deserved (Best New Artist), some of them will be absolute robbery- like taking Best Rap Performance over Drake, Eminem, Jay Z and Kendrick Lamar for Thrift Shop; not even Can't Hold Us, White Walls or Same Love but THRIFT SHOP. We hope we're wrong but probably not...
http://giphy.com/gifs/G04HgWWedAwFy
2. Our Favorite Person, Ever
Not only is Swifty performing, hashtag eyeroll, but she's nominated for Album of the Year and Country Album of the Year. Like, HOW HAVE WE NOT MOVED PAST THIS?!
http://rebloggy.com/
And let's not forget last year's performance when she felt the need to make a dig at her teenager-ex-boyfriend who was in Ghana doing charity work...
http://perezhilton.com/
We were talking over a drinking game where every time a camera showed Swifty awkwardly white girl dancing you had to drink but quickly decided that would lead to alcohol poisoning so... we scrapped it.
http://perezhilton.com/
Be sure to check back here Monday for a Red Carpet recap and follow along during the ceremony on Twitter- @RulesForBelles will be live-tweeting up a storm.

Enjoy!
