If you've been here for more than five minutes, you are well aware that The 1975 is a pretty big deal to me. Their self-titled debut album has been played about 392 times in the year that it's been out. But new music from these boys is a BIG deal. A radio DJ in the UK, Zane Lowe, decided to rescore the Drive soundtrack (which 1,000% did not need to be rescored) and this track is a result of that experiment.
This is the kind of song you dream about falling in love with someone to. I love it so much.
2. Hurricane by Halsey
So I'm not sure of what you would call this genre of music but I'm so obsessed I can't even. Similar to Tove Lo, Lorde, etc. whom I've posted about before, Halsey is a girl to watch. Ethereal vocals over a hip hop influenced downbeat and sad/glamorous lyrics are where. it's. at. y'all. Also, she's a One Direction fan. Here tumblr is named after one member's tattoo and she first garnered attention from The Haylor Song. You can join the club Halsey. We will take you gladly.
3. Teacher by Nick Jonas
I can't even begin to talk about this new Nick Jonas. We have come a very long way from purity rings y'all. He's going to teach us how to love? As long as it's set to a super funky beat, I'm fine with it. Literally, put on your dancing shoes before you press play on this one.
4. Cut Your Teeth by Kygo, Kyla La Grange
So I really liked the original version of Kyla's "Cut Your Teeth" but it always seemed a little too minimal to me. Like, I really wanted there to be something more to it. Enter Kygo. It's literally so chill and perfect and I love them and her and her hair and this song. Still minimal. Still fantastic.
5. One Touch by Baauer feat. Rae Sremmurd & AlunaGeorge
As I love all things Atlanta, I am a sucker for trap music. I like Baauer. I love AlunaGeorge. I'm so on board with this more relaxed take on a trap song. Still has a great downbeat but it's nice to just kind of chill every once in a while, right? I will say, Rae could stand to chill a bit more... (FYI - not exactly suitable for work)
6. Can't Stop by Theophilus London feat. Kanye West
Keeping with the chill vibe that this playlist seems to have taken, this song has been on repeat for me. I love a rap song with an easy beat and nice groove. If this is where rap is heading, I'm so on board.
Enjoy and let me know what you think!
-C. xx.
