Weekend Jam: Drunk In Love (Diplo Remix)

http://yoncehaunted.tumblr.com/post/78090588486
A couple of weeks ago, our favorite Southern DJ released a pretty fabulous remix to one of our favorite Southern queen's killllllllller new songs. Anything by Beyonce is ***flawless, obvi, and we are love love loving Diplo (a.k.a. Mississippi born Thomas Wesley Pentz) right now.

http://rocknrave221.tumblr.com/post/48421240795/so-beautiful
But we weren't over of the original "Drunk In Love" yet, so we couldn't fully embrace it. (Let's be real- we aren't over the Super Bowl performance or the Grammys either... oh well.)

So when the girls over at Betches Love This posted about the remix, we gave it another listen. And it's g o o o o o o o o d. Seriously, HOW did we not put this on repeat immediately?? Check it out on YouTube or Diplo's SoundCloud page (both below).

We don't know about you but we don't really plan to listen to anything else this weekend. Seriously.

Demi Lovato's #NeonLightsTour - So Good, I Cried.

So I've been on a concert kick lately, and my most recent concert shenanigans were this weekend in Atlanta with two of my favorite Modern Magnolias. We were in town to see Demi Lovato's Neon Lights Tour. Demi is not only a Texas gal, but she is crazy talented. Since Demi is the definition of what a Modern Magnolia really is, we decided to do a concert recap for y'all!!!
http://pandawhale.com/post/32142/demi-lovato-neon-lights-gif
We started our girls night at Heat Lounge, a blowout and makeup bar in Atlanta, because we obviously had to make sure we looked good for our girl Demi. Let me just say that if you live in/are going to be in the Atlanta area, you should seriously check them out. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing and the stylists and staff were phenomenal. I got to drink champagne, have someone do my hair and makeup, and watch Sex In The City. It was perfect. And I don't know if y'all are going think I'm gross, but I totally didn't have to wash my hair all weekend after my stylist was finished with it. Not sure what she she did exactly, but I need it to happen ALL THE TIME. Y'all should check out Heat Lounge on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/HeatLoungeSalon), Twitter (@HeatLounge_ATL), and Instagram (@heatlounge_atlanta). Shout out to my stylist, Lola, for making my hair and makeup look FABULOUS!

Now about the concert...

For starters, we were the oldest people at the Neon Lights Tour that didn't have a minor under the age of 13 with us. Which I was 100% fine (no lines at the bar!).

We missed Fifth Harmony (oops). I'm sure they were really good but I only know like one of their songs so... Oh well. There was also this magician. He did like one cool trick and the pre-teen girls seemed to be really into him.

After the magician performed and the DJ played "Talk Dirty" roughly 347 times (but without the 2 Chainz part, UGH), Little Mix performed and I teared up.
http://25.media.tumblr.com/3d0b3e17144401d739b2ee7bf15bacb8/tumblr_n1h4e1VXOx1tnoacwo1_500.jpg
I legitimately almost cried. Y'all, they were THAT good. Now, if you're not a Little Mix fan, you should go buy their new album and stalk them on YoutTube because they are actual perfection. If Destiny's Child, TLC, and the Spice Girls had a love child, it would be Little Mix.

But for real... TOO FAB.

They did a girl group mash-up featuring 'No Scrubs' and 'Bootylicious' (video above) that A) we were the only ones who knew the words to because everyone else there was like 12 years old and B) was potentially the greatest thing I have ever heard in my entire life. In the same mash-up they sang "Don't Let Go" by En Vogue (they did it on the X-Factor UK--YouTube it) and I LOST MY MIND.

That's me screaming about how I was losing my mind.

When Little Mix headlines their own tour, I'm without a doubt buying backstage passes. I need them to be my best friends.

Demi...

After Little Mix performed the magician came on stage (AGAIN--like I was over it), the queen herself entered the arena and was the most perfect thing I have ever seen. I expected the concert to be good, but this was on an entirely different level. Seriously, DEMI. IS. FLAWLESS. I'm now considering dying may hair pink and I absolutely NEED that black sequin jacket she was wearing.

http://31.media.tumblr.com/d7bd20463e9d641912cfbd4b679b3257/tumblr_n1ft0hW8Cu1tqu5rdo1_500.png
She sang songs from her most recent album and I was obsessed. She also sang "Here We Go Again" and I nearly fainted (I had completely forgotten I knew every single word to that song). My girl Demz didn't stop there. She actually sang "Let It Go" from Frozen and I think we all had a panic attack. But then y'all.. I kid you not. I think I died, came back to life, and died again when she sang "Don't Forget" and threw THE MOST SHADE at Joe Jonas. There was legitimately a video of Demi and fetus Joe in Camp Rock and everything. BUT THAT WASN'T ALL. She literally stopped singing in the middle of the song to dis the middle Jo Bro. Semi-direct quote from Demi: "You forgot about me so I forgot about you." OH. THE. SHADE. Most of us would have been a little wary of calling out our ex-boyfriend in front of thousands of people, especially since Nick Jonas is the Creative/Musical Director for the Neon Lights Tour (props bro, it was amazing). Whatever. Demi's just like:

http://imkindatryingtobecool.tumblr.com/post/76975173779

In short, the concert was perfection. Demi Absolutely commanded the stage and sounded amazing live! If you can get tickets to this concert, DO IT. Demi is everything a Modern Magnolia should be: fabulous, confident and tough as nails. GIRL IS A ROCK STAR.

(Lastly, shout out to the two teenage guys sitting behind us who clearly brought their little sister to the concert. They literally looked up the lyrics to every song and SCREAMED them along with Demi. Highlight of our night.)

SIDE NOTE: The next morning we had brunch at Edgewood Corner Tavern (which was phenom), and we didn't want to admit it to the hipsters working there, but we totally chose this place based on the fact (I did extensive research) that it's where Nina Dobrev and Liam Hemsworth were seen canoodling. No shame, y'all.

P.S. I think Demi is the next Supreme.
We love you Demz!

Much love, y'all..

#ValentinesDay playlist: Karaoke Night

My undying love for karaoke started with one of those 90's karaoke machines in my living room, performing Stevie Wonder songs for anyone willing to watch. Although it is, sadly, no longer 1997 (those were the daysss), my love for karaoke night with the girls has never faltered. Most of my experience has been at the Troubadour, in downtown Nashville (which is probably one of my favorite places on earth), so I've performed an awful lot of Waylon Jennings... Which brings me to a little karaoke tip-- realize where you are in the world. Case in point, don't request a Kendrick Lamar song in Nashville (take it from me, they don't have it).

http://www.omgsamantha.com/the-13-best-faces-britney-spears-made-on-x-factor/
The whole point of karaoke is to have fun and get the other bar-goers singing with you-- unless you are Mariah Carey, in which case, do your thang.

Here are a few of my favorite karaoke songs that are always a crowd pleaser:

  1. Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams
  2. All For You by Sister Hazel
  3. Wannabe by Spice Girls
  4. Beast of Burden by The Rolling Stones
  5. No Rain by Blind Melon
  6. Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond
  7. Black Velvet by Alannah Myles
  8. Dixieland Delight by Alabama
  9. PYT by Michael Jackson
  10. Say My Name by Destiny's Child
  11. I Want You to Want Me by Cheap Trick
  12. Wings by Little Mix
  13. Closing Time by Semisonic
  14. Kiss You by One Direction
  15. Fancy by Reba McEntire
  16. It's Still Rock and Roll to Me by Billy Joel
  17. Baby One More Time by Britney Spears
  18. Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show
  19. Torn by Natalie Imburglia
  20. Santeria by Sublime
  21. Callin' Baton Rouge by Garth Brooks
While I fully recommend spending Valentine's Day at a karaoke bar with your besties, there is always car-aoke en route to dinner with your significant other. It can be almost as fun.

#ValentinesDay playlist: Lovers & Liars.

http://xothersidexx.tumblr.com/post/76029751227/love-blog-xothersidexx-tumblr-com
If you're anything like us, music is an integral part of your life. You likely have a playlist for everything from getting ready in the morning to falling asleep at night. So we thought it was only fitting to have one for Hallmark's favorite holiday, too. Whether you're loved up this Valentine's Day or waiting to see your "boyfriend" when he comes to your local venue on tour
http://fuckyeahzourry.com/post/73279254107
(ahemmm, Caroline and Mary Lauren know what I'm talking about here...), we have a playlist that embodies what this holiday is all about. Some songs are relatively recent and others are personal favorites that seem to make it onto every playlist I make- we all have some of those, right?

  1. Slow Dancing in a Burning Room by John Mayer
  2. She Looks So Perfect by 5 Seconds of Summer
  3. You by The 1975
  4. Crazy by Aerosmith
  5. Fix You by Coldplay
  6. I Don't Wanna Love Somebody Else by A Great Big World
  7. Strong by One Direction
  8. Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High by Arctic Monkeys
  9. Nothing Feels Like You by Little Mix
  10. I Saw Her Standing There by The Beatles
  11. Things We Lost In The Fire by Bastille
  12. Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran
  13. The Writer by Ellie Goulding
  14. Something About The Way You Look Tonight by Elton John
  15. Lovers' Eyes by Mumford & Sons
  16. Faithfully by Journey
  17. Living Of Love by The Avett Brothers
  18. Grace Is Gone by Dave Matthews Band
  19. Towers by Little Mix
  20. The Sweetest Thing by U2
Little Mix gets two songs because their new album, Salute, is flawless and I will shamelessly promote it every chance I get.

Wherever the holiday takes you, I hope you find something on this playlist that speaks to you. Remember: "Music doesn't lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music." -Jimi Hendrix

#ValentinesDay- (Single) Ladies Night

All my single ladies, you know what Friday is. It's Valentine's Day. If you’re anything like me, you’re a little tired of hearing girls talk about what they’re doing with their boyfriend on Friday. Now just to be clear, I'm not hating on you ladies with a beau. I'm just saying that we don’t need to see your boyfriend as your #ManCrushMonday EVERY SINGLE WEEK. Like we get it, you’re in a relationship. *cue eye roll*
http://fuckyeahreactions.tumblr.com/post/55609621754
Single ladies (myself included) like to knock on girls with boyfriends, but we usually, admittedly, wish we had some grand, romantic plan for Valentine’s Day. But I’m here to tell you, there are perks to being single, no matter how many times movies, TV, books, etc. tell us otherwise. Don't look at this as a day to pity yourself because you’re single; look at this as a night to do exactly what you want. So with all that in mind, here are a few of my ideas of Valentine's Day/Night activities for all you sassy, single Magnolias. Disclaimer: every activity should probably involve a little of this:
http://fuckyeahreactions.tumblr.com/post/56816628127
Maybe you’ve had a hard week of school/work/life in general and you need a little “me time.” There’s absolutely no shame in staying in and having a night to yourself. If you're going to feel sorry for yourself for not having a date tonight, don't stay in alone, but if you're like me, there is nothing you love more than having a night to do exactly what you want. If it were me, I'd be doing some serious catching up on some TV with a cocktail or two. My suggestions if you're spending the night with Netflix and a bottle of wine: Friday Night Lights. Nothing like spending your Valentine’s Day with this guy:
http://24.media.tumblr.com/514e8cdc1226b799e7ba5ae17718a572/tumblr_mtto3pLFkz1qb6g59o1_250.gif
Clear eyes. Full Heart. I’m in love.

Don’t want to stay in alone? I know a lot of people plan "Anti Valentine's Day" parties, but don't be such a Debbie Downer. You may not be in a relationship, but you have plenty of people you love. Plan a fun night in with your girls. Call your single friends, crack open the wine, and order take out (OBVI WITH DESSERT). Maybe you don’t want to go out, but that’s no excuse not to celebrate Valentine’s Day with people you care about. Have a movie marathon, watch y'all's favorite TV series, or have a game night. Pretty sure Cards Against Humanity plus a bottle of wine could rival anyone’s plans for Valentine’s Day.

http://realitytvgifs.tumblr.com/post/73571557021/cheers-witch#notes
Not into staying in? GIRLS NIGHT OUT. You might not have a date, but girls still want a reason to get fancy! Treat yourself to a new outfit and get all dolled up. Do dinner and drinks with some of your single friends. Don’t want to stay out too late? Head to the movies. My suggestion: see something like Lone Survivor or That Awkward Moment. Now I want to see Endless Love as bad as the next girl, but not on Valentine’s Day with every couple in a 60 mile radius.

Don’t want to go home early? Hit the town after dinner. My plans... karaoke anyone?
http://fuckyeahreactions.tumblr.com/post/71832119757
Happy Valentine’s Day, dolls. I sincerely hope all of you single ladies have a fabulous day filled with love and fun. Cheers, Magnolias.

#ValentinesDay: Surf & Turf for Two

Looking for the perfect date night meal (you know Valentines is this week right??) and let's face it, spending $150+ on a dinner in a noisy restaurant with the 200 other couples treating themselves is a tad overrated. Don't shoot the messenger y’all!
http://giphy.com/gifs/fsNOSKTpH7r68
Plus, there's nothing more attractive to me than a guy that can cook. Luckily I snatched one up! I think our meals are even more delicious when we work together to make them. Just like for this one.... he manned the grill with the steaks while I took on the shrimp and potatoes.
For the shrimp marinade
Ingredients
10 large shrimp, peeled and deveined with tails on

1 tablespoon of Mrs. Dash Garlic & Herb seasoning

Salt/Pepper

2 teaspoons of olive oil

2 teaspoons lemon juice
For the steak marinade
Ingredients
2 cuts of steak (we used filet mignon)

1 tablespoon of Mrs. Dash Garlic & Herb seasoning

Salt/Pepper

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
For the smashed potatoes
Ingredients
1 1/2 lbs. of red potatoes

1 cups low fat milk

1/4 cup of butter, softened

5 cloves of minced garlic

Salt/Pepper
Directions
Go ahead and combine all the ingredients for the shrimp marinade and the steak marinade (keeping the shrimp and steaks separate obviously). Let the flavors combine for about 30 minutes in the fridge. Take out of the fridge and bring them back to room temperature.
Cook the shrimp on a med-low pan for 3 minutes each side until they turn a pink color. Cook steak on the grill based on thickness and desired temperature. This is a good chart to decide on how long you should grill for. Make sure you let the steak rest for at least 5 minutes before eating.
Now for the potatoes! Put potatoes in a pot of water and bring to a boil. Reduce it to a simmer and cover to cook for 20 minutes. If you can stick a fork into it at the end, it's good to go. Drain potatoes from water and put back in a pot. Mash with a potato masher (or in my case a dough cutter but a spoon would work too) roughly. You want to leave some of the potatoes still intake for this recipe. Add milk, butter, minced garlic and salt and pepper to taste-- mixing thoroughly.
Serve it all up together and enjoy your romantic meal for two! I even tried to make the shrimp look like hearts on our steak.... what do you think?!

Enjoy!

Valentine's Day Outfits: Date Night

Can y'all believe it? Valentines Day is less than a week away! I've always been a big v-day supporter. What could be better than a day celebrating love? The only problem I always seem to face is what to wear! February is such a tricky month to dress for, and it's always a struggle to look cute while you’re freezing to death. However, whether you celebrate this holiday by going out to a fancy dinner or keep it low key I've put together a few looks that will keep you warm and make you feel your best!

Formal Dinner
http://www.polyvore.com/valentines_date_dressy/set?id=112570440

This dress is so perfect for a dressy valentines dinner. The combination of the bold color, classic shift silhouette, and whimsical scalloped detailing make this dress a serious trifecta. Add a sleek pair of nude heels and drop pearl earrings and you'll be the best looking gal in the room!

Drinks and Dancing
http://www.polyvore.com/valentines_date_dressy/set?.embedder=252135&.svc=copypaste&id=112570628

This outfit is all about the details. The combination of a comfy sweater and punchy pleated skirt make this look simultaneously comfy and fun at the same time. Spice it up with gold stud earrings and a killer pair of heels and you're ready to dance the night away with your sweetie.

 Casual Dinner
http://www.polyvore.com/valentines_date_semi_dressy/set?.embedder=252135&.svc=copypaste&id=112570931

Honestly, most of my Valentine dates have fallen into this category; but just because you aren't going to a super fancy place doesn't mean you can't look chic! Structured leggings, a pretty blouse and classic flats create an effortless vibe while also looking perfectly put together. Top it off with a bright pink lip and your casual date will feel much more glamorous!

Dinner & a Movie
http://www.polyvore.com/valentines_date_casual/set?.embedder=252135&.svc=copypaste&id=112571168
In my opinion, sometimes the low-key dates turn out to be the best. For a date like this stick to tried and true favorites, but add fun accessories to make it feel elevated. A great pair of skinny jeans, soft pink sweater, neutral flats, and a dainty jewelry give a fun-girly vibe to an otherwise laid back outfit!

I hope these outfit ideas are helpful and spark your fashion creativity! No matter how you celebrate this holiday, fancy to casual, the most important thing is to have fun with the ones you love! Happy Valentines Day y'all! xoxo

Valentine's Night In

Ladies—I know we don’t always have that perfect Valentine’s date lined up. If that’s you this year, I encourage you to celebrate this Friday with a group of your special friends noming over good food and getting drunk watching every Ryan Gosling movie out there… It’s okay, I mean this only happens like, twice a month normally anyways right?
http://www.celebuzz.com/2013-11-12/33-ryan-gosling-gifs-for-his-33rd-birthday/
I can't think of anything better than a comfort meal that's easy to make. That recipe has my name all over it! Not to mention a recipe that feeds a big group, too. This pasta dish is filling, yet light, and is perfect to serve all year-long.
Ingredients
1 package of pre-cooked grilled chicken strips

1 1/2 cups of sliced grape tomatoes

1 package of whole wheat pasta

1 jar of pesto sauce
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place sliced tomatoes in aluminum foil and drizzle with olive oil and salt/pepper. Place foil pouch in oven and cook for 15-20 minutes.

Cook pasta according to package. Reserve about 1/2 cup of pasta water. Drain and set aside.
Heat grilled chicken strips according to package. This is a time saver for me, but you can certainly grill your own chicken breast to go on top of the pasta. Another time saver for me is jarred pesto sauce. However, you can be really impressive and make your own with this recipe.

Combine all ingredients together in a bowl. Use reserved pasta water to thin out the pesto sauce if needed (sometimes I find it hard to work with without a touch of water or olive oil).

Now, I know what you are thinking… what about the ice cream-face stuffing part of the night? Well, y’all, this great dessert is just perfect for your single ladies party!

Valentine's Day Outfits: All the single ladies

http://rebloggy.com/post/beyonce-josh-hutcherson-single-ladies/42240144510
Let me start by saying, I don’t want to discourage you ladies with a significant other from reading this post. It’s just that you have probably had a sassy little number picked out for Valentine’s Day for your cute beau for weeks. If not, keep reading! I’ll give you my favorite looks and trends that will have you looking FABULOUS on V-Day.

But, if you’re single on Valentine’s Day, chances are you’re going to end up where other singles are. Whether it’s a night on the town, the movies with the girls, whatever.. you’re in need of a new outfit. If you’re going out, you’re bound to see tons of girls trying WAY too hard, dressed in literally the shortest, tightest, most risqué dress you’ve ever seen. Don’t be that girl. Yes, you may be single, but you’re not desperate. Modern Magnolias know better. You never know when you are going to run into the love of your life (so my mama says, still waiting), so you want to make a good impression wherever you go. Dress like the classy and sassy girls that you are. With no beau to buy a gift for, spend that money on a new outfit for you to wear on Valentine’s Day. All that being said, here are my favorite looks and trends for you to rock on V-Day.

Faux Fur
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/203084264419466760/

I’m literally TOO obsessed with faux fur right now. It’s such an easy way to dress up nearly any outfit. Throw it a faux fur jacket on with jeans and a t-shirt if you’re doing something casual with the girls, or pair a fur vest with a fancy top and heels or boots for a night out on the town. Faux fur adds something a little extra to every outfit and makes you stand out without breaking the bank.
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/375276581421321826/
Animal Print
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/36662184437127595/
Y’all, I am ALL ABOUT some leopard print these days. I think wearing an animal print helps draw attention to yourself, but in the best way possible. Now I’m not a fan of animal print head to toe, like you don’t need you shoes, dress, and hair accessories to make you look like you’re an actual animal. But a pair of printed pants or skirt with a bright top, or even a sassy leopard print dress says that you are feisty and bold, with a whole lot of sass.
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/36662184437127595/
Sparkle!
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/458311699550256735/
Whether you go with sequins or a metallic print, a little sparkle always adds a little pizzazz to literally any outfit. And even though you may be single this Valentine’s Day, you still want to feel girly and pretty! And nothing can make me feel more like a girl than some glitter, y’all. Doesn’t matter if it’s a little or a lot, but a little sparkle is a full proof way to make you stand out on V-Day!
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/36662184438209269/
When in doubt, wear black.
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/221731981627103490/
Here’s your chance to pull out that little black dress or that chic leather jacket. My mama always says, “You can never have too much black,” and she is 100% correct in my opinion. Black is flattering on literally everyone, and you will without a doubt look FIERCE. Worried you’re going to look too American Horror Story? Throw on a fun statement necklace or fun heels with your all black ensemble and BAM you’re ready to go.
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/261982903297378036/
Hope this gives y’all a little outfit inspiration for Valentine’s Day. Single ladies, you may not have a boy this V-Day, but that’s no reason not to look your best. Don’t be afraid to combine several of these trends for a killer Valentine’s Day outfit. Keep it classy and look fabulous!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY, Y’ALL!

Peter Pilotto for Target

http://pressroom.target.com/news/
I'm not really a fan of wearing color. I basically live in head-to-toe black. Seriously. I practically belong in an episode of AHS: Coven and I love it.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/
My life motto is basically:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/
So imagine my surprise when I fell in love with a capsule collection that is made solely of very bright, very graphic printed pieces. Enter Peter Pilotto (which is the name of only one of the two designers. The other guy got straight up robbed... don't know why).

http://nymag.com/thecut/

So, in anticipation of the collab hitting stores and online this Sunday (February 9th), here are some of my, hands down, favorite pieces.

http://www.target.com/c/peter-pilotto-for-target-brand-shop/
How fun is this origami/wrap skirt? With a simple black tank top for a casual going out look or a ruffled blouse for the office, this is SUCH a fab way day-to-night option. Best part? It's only $34.99.
http://www.target.com/c/peter-pilotto-for-target-brand-shop/
This belted dress with the long-sleeved undershirt thing is one of the more interesting pieces in the collection. And for some reason, I'm loving it. With a simple, strappy sandal? Perfect for date night. Maybe. (Ok, so I'm kind of on the fence/trying to convince myself that I love it. I need to try it on before I decide.) This one is $49.99.

http://www.target.com/c/peter-pilotto-for-target-brand-shop/
I think the bathing suits might be my favorite part of the entire collection. I mean, LOOK at how fabulous this is. How could you not be obsessed?! Like, SEND ME SUMMERTIME N O W. The top is $22.99 and the bottom is $16.99. What. A. Steal.
http://www.target.com/c/peter-pilotto-for-target-brand-shop/
How fun is this moto jacket?? I love it. It's perfect to go with all of the black clothing I already own :) I'm super excited about this one. And at $59.99, it's a great price for any jacket. (It also has shorts that match it but I wouldn't pair the two together...)
http://www.target.com/c/peter-pilotto-for-target-brand-shop/
This seems to be the dress everyone is most excited about. It is pretty without being cutesy a.k.a. perfect. I have a feeling this will be accompanying me to a bridal luncheon or two. I could even see myself wearing this to Carolina Cup so as not to get lost in the sea of Lilly Pulitzer shift dresses...
http://www.target.com/c/peter-pilotto-for-target-brand-shop/
I think this skirt is SO fun. Again, pair it with a simple black top and sandals and you will make just the right statement. You'll say, "Look y'all, I'm fun and on-trend but I'm N O T cray cray." $34.99
http://www.target.com/c/peter-pilotto-for-target-brand-shop/
I mean... what really needs to be said? These are beyond presh. They WILL be mine. And for $16.99, I'll probably go ahead and buy two pair since I'll for sure lose/break one.

So while you're waiting for the collection to hit stores/the Peter Pilotto London Fashion Week show, here are some looks from their Spring 2014 Ready To Wear collection.
